Kathy and I just returned from BU which was held in Las Vegas in July. I can now say I've been there, but it's not quite my cup 'o tea. However, it was an exciting week with the unveiling of several new and updated machines. The 790e and the 880e are now the 790Plus and the 880 Plus with some upgraded and wonderful new features. For those of you who already own a 790 or 880 do not despair! Recently Bernina issued a firmware update which you can download from their website. Once you have done that you can upgrade your machine to the new Plus models with a reasonably priced upgrade kit. We will have more information and you may check with Kathy if you have specific questions about this conversion.
There are also new 5-series machines, including an embroidery only edition, the 500 which is a little sister to the 700 embroidery only machine introduced last year. All of the new 5-series machines (the 500, 570, 590e) will have a 1" expansion of the bed to 8 ½", the new jumbo Bernina bobbin system, 9mm feed dogs, embroidery as an option and the integrated even-feed feature. The exception will be the new 535 which will still have 5mm feed dogs and is an update to the popular 530. These machines will all ship later this summer/fall and we'll do our best to keep you up-to-date.
Toolbox Software was also introduced at BU. It is a modular software that is designed for the new or occasional embroiderer. You can edit designs, add and change lettering, or create monograms. Just select the module that fits your needs or get the bundle with all the modules! And it is compatible with both Mac and PC formats. A free trial version is available in the store or at: www.bernina.com/toolbox-trial.
